For so long we have associated wool with “dry cleaning”. After all, wool thrown
into the washer and dryer machine is also wool that is ready to be given to a much smaller person,
right?
Shrinkage has definitely been a problem in the past when it comes to wool, but
this might not be the case anymore. If you are looking for a washable wool blanket, then you might
just be in luck.
Some wool is now being treated with a resin finish that keeps it protected
during washing and drying. Does this mean that wool will not shrink anymore? Well, the wool is no
different, but the resin finish keeps the wool blanket fibers from interlocking, preventing the
wool from getting smaller when it goes in the tumble dryer.

After all, for being such busy people, how can we expect to actually have time to dry clean
everything anymore?
Unless we make a regular couple of trips to the dry cleaner every week out of habit, you usually
don’t have time to make a single trip a few times per month just because you have a wool blanket that you love to
use. So, buy a washable wool blanket instead!
Not every wool blanket is a washable wool
blanket though....only the ones specifically designed to withstand the rigors of a machine tumble dryer can really
be counted on to not shrink when you pop it in.
There are also Teflon treated wool blankets that have added protection against things like drink
spills, stains, and things like that. Liquids don’t soak into the blankets coated with Teflon, but rather, they
bead up and roll right off!
If you are planning on buying washable wool blankets for you or someone that you know, here are
some things to remember. First of all, online is one of the best places to buy an item like this. You can find a
lot of specialty dealers online, and these dealers will have better products than dealers who might be in your
hometown.
Second, you can find better prices online than you could close to home in most cases. Just make
sure that the blanket you are looking for is indeed a washable wool blanket. There are a lot of wool blankets that
might say that they are washable, but only blankets treated with resin are actually going to work.
Buying a washable wool blanket is going to be something that you and your family will be able to
enjoy for a long time to come. In most cases, washable wool blankets are going to last for a lot longer than a
traditional wool blanket will, but the good ones are able to pull it off without feeling any different.
Some of the cheaper ones do feel a little bit harsh, but the good ones are just as soft as the
regular wool ones. This is always good news, especially if you like to curl up at night by the fire with a good
book, and keep warm with it.
